Dyson’s air-treatment range combines particle filtration, gas adsorption, air-quality sensing and high-velocity airflow. Depending on the model, the same platform can also provide personal cooling, electric room heating or evaporative humidification.
This review compares four products that represent the 2026 US lineup: HushJet Compact Purifier HJ10, Purifier Cool PC2 De-NOx, Purifier Hot+Cool HP2 De-NOx and Purifier Humidify+Cool PH2 De-NOx. What makes Dyson air treatment different?
Dyson designs the purifier, sensor system, filter seal and air projection as one machine. The tall PC2, HP2 and PH2 models also act as room-air circulators instead of simply pulling air through a rectangular box.
The trade-off is cost. Dyson emphasizes industrial design, airflow direction, connected control and multifunction use more than low cost per unit of clean-air delivery.
HushJet versus Dyson tower purifiers
HushJet is a dedicated compact purifier with a published 203-square-foot room claim and 131 cfm CADR in Dyson’s launch material. It is the easiest Dyson model to compare with conventional bedroom purifiers.
PC2, HP2 and PH2 provide directional airflow and extra functions but do not publish familiar AHAM smoke, dust and pollen CADR values on their main pages.
Choose HushJet when purification is the priority. Choose a tower model when fan projection, heating or humidification would replace another appliance.
PC2 versus HP2
PC2 is taller and focused on purification plus cooling airflow. HP2 is shorter and adds electric heating.
The filtration, app platform, annual HEPA+K-Carbon schedule and formaldehyde catalyst are broadly similar. The HP2 premium is worthwhile only when the heater will be used.
HP2 versus PH2
HP2 heats and does not humidify. PH2 humidifies and does not provide room heating.
PH2 requires a water tank, monthly Deep Clean process and more floor space. HP2 requires safe heater clearance and can draw much more power during heat mode.
Cooling is not air conditioning
PC2, HP2 and PH2 move room-temperature air across the user. This can improve comfort through evaporation from the skin.
They do not contain a refrigeration compressor and do not lower room temperature like an air conditioner.
Heating is supplemental room heat
HP2 can distribute electric heat around a room and maintain a selected target temperature.
It should not be treated as a whole-home heating system. Keep the intake and outlet clear and follow the heater-safety instructions.
Humidification requires humidity control
PH2 adds moisture through evaporative humidification. In dry conditions, added moisture may improve comfort.
Indoor humidity should not be raised high enough to support condensation or mold. A separate accurate humidity check can be useful.
HEPA H13-grade wording
Dyson states that the PC2, HP2 and PH2 systems are fully sealed and use HEPA H13-grade filtration. The airflow path is designed to reduce leakage around the filter.
The 99.97% particle figure describes performance under the cited test, not instant removal of 99.97% of particles from every real room.
Electrostatic filtration in HushJet
HushJet uses charged synthetic media with lower airflow resistance than dense conventional media. Dyson uses this to support compact size, low noise and long service life.
The five-year figure is tied to a specific decline threshold and 12 hours of daily operation. Pollution levels can shorten actual life.
K-Carbon and nitrogen dioxide
The K-Carbon filter is impregnated with potassium carbonate and is tested to adsorb 50% more NO2 than the referenced standard carbon setup.
This relative improvement does not mean the purifier removes every gas or eliminates the need for ventilation around combustion sources.
Formaldehyde destruction
PC2, HP2 and PH2 include a catalytic filter that converts formaldehyde rather than merely storing it in carbon. Dyson states that this catalyst does not need routine replacement.
The claim is linked to Dyson’s whole-machine test method. Real concentration depends on emissions from furniture, building materials and household products.
Particle and gas sensors
Integrated sensors report selected particles, gases, temperature and humidity depending on the model. Auto mode adjusts operation when measured pollution changes.
No consumer sensor measures every pollutant. A favorable display does not prove that carbon monoxide, radon, mold or every VOC is absent.
MyDyson app
Compatible machines can be scheduled, monitored and adjusted remotely. The app also provides historical environmental data and filter alerts.
Connected functions depend on Wi-Fi, account access, software support and privacy terms. Core operation remains available from the machine or remote.
Diffused mode and airflow direction
PC2 and HP2 can route airflow through the rear in Diffused mode to purify without sending the strongest cooling stream toward the user.
PH2 distributes humidified air through a narrower oscillation range, while HushJet projects a concentrated vertical jet.
Room-coverage transparency
Dyson uses proprietary whole-room tests for several tall models and does not prominently publish AHAM CADR on their US product pages.
This makes direct comparison with conventional purifiers less precise. High airflow projection should not automatically be treated as high smoke CADR.
Placement
Keep the intake clear of walls, curtains and furniture. Air must enter and leave the machine without obstruction.
PH2 also needs convenient access for tank removal. HP2 needs safe clearance from combustible materials during heating.
Filter replacement
PC2, HP2 and PH2 recommend replacing the combined HEPA+K-Carbon filter about every year based on 12 hours of daily use.
HushJet separates the long-life electrostatic filter from the gas-and-odor carbon stage. Follow its LCD or app alert rather than assuming both filters age identically.
Do not wash main air filters
HEPA, electrostatic and activated-carbon cartridges should not be washed unless the exact model guide explicitly permits it.
Water can damage charged media, carbon and structural seals. Exterior surfaces and accessible intakes should be cleaned according to the manual.
PH2 water-system maintenance
Fill the tank with suitable clean water and run the guided Deep Clean cycle when prompted. Scale accumulation depends on water hardness.
UV treatment of humidification water does not remove mineral scale or eliminate the need to clean the tank, evaporator and water path.
Noise expectations
HushJet has the clearest current acoustic figures: 24 dB in Sleep mode and 41 dB at maximum purification.
The taller machines become more audible at high airflow. Sleep mode lowers sound and display brightness but also reduces cleaning speed.
Energy use
Purification-only operation is generally less energy-intensive than electric heating. HP2 heat mode is the feature most likely to affect electricity cost.
PH2 also powers a pump, UV water system and humidification controls. Auto mode can reduce unnecessary operation when targets are met.
Two-year warranty
The featured Dyson air-treatment machines carry a two-year limited warranty on qualifying direct or authorized purchases.
Consumable filter life, accidental damage, misuse and incorrect maintenance are different from a manufacturing defect.
Thirty-day returns
Dyson Direct accepts eligible machine returns within 30 days from delivery and states that it pays return shipping.
The machine, accessories and attachments should be returned in the original packaging. Refurbished machines are final sale and receive warranty service instead.
