Quick verdict

Oura Ring 5 is the newest generation of Oura's smart ring and the strongest option in the range for people who care most about sleep, recovery, readiness and long-term health trends. It is substantially smaller than Oura Ring 4, starts at 2 grams, tracks more than 50 health metrics and offers a claimed 6–9 days of battery life.

Our overall rating is 4.8/5. Oura's major strengths are comfortable overnight wear, polished sleep and recovery insights, useful trend interpretation and a mature app. The main drawbacks are the $399 starting price, an ongoing membership fee for full functionality, size-specific charging hardware and more limited workout feedback than a screen-based sports watch.

What is Oura Ring 5?

Oura Ring 5 is a titanium smart ring designed to collect health data continuously from the finger. It monitors sleep, resting and daytime heart rate, heart-rate variability, temperature trends, respiratory rate, blood-oxygen patterns, activity, stress and recovery-related signals.

The product is available in six finishes: Silver, Black, Stealth, Brushed Silver, Gold and Deep Rose. Current sizes run from 6 to 13, and Oura Ring 5 uses its own sizing system. Oura recommends using the official sizing kit and wearing the sample ring for at least 24 hours, including during sleep, before confirming a size.

The ring has no display and is intended to work quietly in the background. Most interpretation happens inside the Oura App on iOS or Android.

What changed from Oura Ring 4?

Oura Ring 5 has approximately 40% less volume than Oura Ring 4. It measures 6.09 mm wide and 2.28 mm thick, with weight starting at about 2 grams depending on size. Oura Ring 4 measures 7.9 mm wide and about 2.88 mm thick.

The smaller profile is the most noticeable upgrade because comfort directly affects whether a user will wear a sleep tracker every night. Oura also revised the optical sensing system, coating and battery design. The company states that the new generation improves average overnight HRV accuracy and workout-heart-rate signal quality compared with Ring 4.

There is one less obvious trade-off: Ring 5 stores up to three days of data internally, compared with up to seven days for Ring 4. Users who keep Bluetooth disabled or leave their phone behind for long periods should sync more frequently.

Sleep tracking

Sleep remains Oura's strongest use case. The app provides a nightly Sleep Score based on factors such as total sleep, efficiency, timing, restfulness, REM sleep, deep sleep, latency and heart-rate patterns.

Oura Ring 5 estimates sleep stages, detects nighttime movement and monitors blood-oxygen trends for possible breathing disturbances. It also provides bedtime guidance and longer-term views of sleep regularity.

Oura reports 95% sleep-staging accuracy compared with a clinical sleep laboratory in its current Ring 5 marketing. This is a company-reported validation figure and should not be interpreted as perfect performance for every person or every night. Consumer wearables estimate sleep stages from indirect signals and are better used for observing patterns than diagnosing a sleep disorder.

Readiness and recovery

The Readiness Score combines recent sleep, resting heart rate, HRV, body-temperature trends, activity balance and recovery signals. This is one of Oura's most useful features because it turns several measurements into a simple daily recommendation.

A low score can encourage a lighter training day or more sleep, while a consistently high score can support normal activity. The score should still be treated as guidance rather than a command. Illness, medication, alcohol, travel, stress, room temperature and ring fit can influence the underlying data.

Resilience and Daytime Stress add longer-term context by showing how the body appears to respond to stress and recover throughout the day.

Heart and activity tracking

Oura Ring 5 tracks heart rate and HRV throughout the day and night. It also estimates Cardio Capacity, expressed as VO2 max, and Cardiovascular Age. Automatic Activity Detection can recognize more than 40 types of movement.

Oura currently advertises 99% heart-rate accuracy compared with ECG in its Ring 5 validation material and says the finger can deliver a stronger pulse signal than the wrist. These claims are useful context, but real-world workout accuracy still depends on movement, fit, skin contact and the activity being performed.

The ring is less suitable than a GPS sports watch for live pace, route guidance, interval prompts, lap data or on-screen workout control. It is better as a recovery and health-trend device than as a dedicated endurance-training computer.

Women's health features

Oura uses nightly temperature trends and other data to support Cycle Insights, period predictions, Pregnancy Insights and Menopause Insights. It can also sync with selected third-party apps, including Natural Cycles, Flo and Clue where supported.

Cycle predictions are estimates and can be affected by irregular cycles, illness, travel, hormonal medication, pregnancy and incomplete data. Users should follow the instructions and regulatory status of any connected fertility or contraception app rather than treating the ring alone as birth control.

Oura Advisor and app experience

Oura Membership includes Oura Advisor, an AI-based health companion that interprets personal trends and can respond to questions about sleep, activity and recovery. The app also provides weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly and anniversary reports.

The main advantage is interpretation. Oura does not simply present raw measurements; it attempts to explain what changed and what action may be reasonable. The disadvantage is that many of these insights depend on an active subscription.

The Oura App currently supports more than 20 languages and integrates with more than 100 apps and services, depending on device, country and feature availability.

Battery and charging

Oura states that Ring 5 provides approximately 6–9 days of battery life depending on ring size, settings, feature use and battery age. A normal charge takes about 80 minutes.

The included standard charger is size-specific, so a charger for one ring size will not necessarily fit another. Replacement Ring 5 chargers are currently listed at $59.

The optional Oura Ring 5 Charging Case costs $99 and can recharge a compatible ring up to five times. Oura says ten minutes in the case can provide approximately one day of use. The case must also match the exact ring size.

Battery performance will decline gradually over years of use, as with other small rechargeable devices.

Comfort, sizing and materials

Oura Ring 5 uses a fully titanium exterior and a seamless non-allergenic titanium interior. Every finish uses a super-hard PVD coating intended to improve scratch resistance.

Despite the improved coating, scratches and finish wear remain possible. Rings can also scratch softer objects or jewelry. Removing the ring for heavy barbell work, gripping rough metal or tasks that put pressure on the finger can protect both the finish and the hand.

Fit is critical. A ring that is too loose can produce gaps in the optical signal, while a ring that is too tight can become uncomfortable as fingers swell. Oura recommends the index finger for the strongest signal, though the middle and ring fingers can also work.

Water resistance

Oura Ring 5 is rated IP68 and waterproof to 100 meters. It can be worn while showering, swimming, using a sauna or taking an ice bath. Oura does not recommend scuba diving or keeping the ring submerged for more than 12 hours.

The charging equipment should be kept dry and used according to its own instructions. Water resistance can also be affected by damage or unusual conditions over the product's life.

Membership cost

A new ring purchase currently includes the first month of Oura Membership for new members. After that, US pricing is $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. EU pricing is currently €5.99 per month or €69.99 per year, including applicable tax treatment stated by Oura.

Without an active membership, the ring has limited functionality. Users can still see basic daily scores, but detailed analysis, trends and many advanced features require the subscription.

Over three years, the annual US membership adds roughly $210 before tax to the hardware price. Buyers should include that recurring cost when comparing Oura with subscription-free smart rings or watches.

Price and finish options

Prices checked on August 3, 2026:

  • Silver: $399.
  • Black: $399.
  • Gold: $499.
  • Stealth: $499.
  • Brushed Silver: $499.
  • Deep Rose: $499.
  • Oura Ring 5 Charging Case: $99.
  • Replacement standard charger: $59.

The internal tracking functions are the same across finishes. The premium is primarily for appearance, so Silver or Black offers the best value for most buyers.

Returns and warranty

Oura currently advertises free returns within 30 days for eligible direct purchases. The standard US purchase includes a limited one-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. Consumer-law coverage can be longer in other countries, including many European markets.

Normal scratches, dents, battery aging, loss, theft and damage caused by misuse are generally excluded. Extended protection plans are available in selected regions at checkout.

Privacy and health limitations

Oura collects sensitive health and behavioral data, so buyers should review account, export, integration and privacy settings before connecting additional apps.

Oura Ring is a wellness tool and should not replace professional medical evaluation. Blood-oxygen patterns, temperature changes, heart-rate trends, cycle estimates and illness-related signals can be useful prompts, but they are not a diagnosis.

People with unexplained symptoms, suspected sleep apnea, persistent heart rhythm concerns or significant health changes should seek appropriate medical care regardless of wearable scores.

Who should buy Oura Ring 5?

  • People who prioritize sleep and recovery over live workout statistics.
  • Users who dislike wearing a watch in bed.
  • Travelers who want multi-day battery life in a small wearable.
  • People interested in HRV, temperature trends, stress and readiness.
  • Users willing to pay for an ongoing membership.
  • Existing Oura members who want a smaller and lighter ring.

Who should skip it?

  • Anyone who refuses recurring subscription fees.
  • Athletes who require live GPS, pace, maps or workout screens.
  • People whose work or training makes wearing a ring unsafe.
  • Users who cannot get a comfortable fit within sizes 6–13.
  • Anyone expecting a consumer wearable to diagnose a medical condition.
  • Budget shoppers satisfied with basic sleep tracking from an existing watch.

Pros and cons

Pros: very comfortable design, up to nine days of claimed battery life, strong sleep and recovery presentation, titanium construction, 100-meter water resistance, more than 100 integrations, useful readiness and stress insights, and a mature mobile app.

Cons: expensive hardware, membership required for full value, no screen or live workout interface, exact sizing matters, chargers are size-specific, finish wear is still possible and internal offline storage is shorter than Ring 4.

Our verdict

Oura Ring 5 earns 4.6 out of 5. It is one of the best wearables for people who want detailed sleep, recovery and wellness trends without sleeping in a bulky smartwatch.

The most meaningful Ring 5 upgrade is not one isolated metric; it is the smaller, lighter form that makes continuous wear easier. Better adherence produces more complete data, and more complete data improves the usefulness of long-term trends.

The Silver and Black versions at $399 are the best-value choices because all finishes use the same tracking platform. The $499 finishes make sense only when appearance is worth the extra cost. The Charging Case is useful for frequent travelers but unnecessary for most people because the standard battery already lasts close to a week.

Oura Ring 5 is worth buying when sleep and recovery insights are a priority and the recurring membership fits the budget. Buyers who mainly want sports training metrics or dislike subscriptions should choose a different wearable.
